Anis Rahman 1990

Anis Rahman OBE read law at Westminster University. He has a master degree in History and a master degree in Politics and Government from the University of London. He has a postgraduate Diploma in Shipping from City University, London. He was called to the English Bar from the Honorable Society of Inner Temple.

Anis Rahman is registered with the Bar Council for Public Access which means that the public can go to him directly for legal advice and representation and he can draft and send letters out on client’s behalf using chambers headed paper. As a Public Access Barrister, he advises and represents individual clients and businesses from the UK, Europe (France, Germany) and overseas on employment, contracts, property litigation, business disputes, banking and international trade direct without the need for instructing a solicitor in the first place. As a specialist immigration practitioner he provides advice and assistance to individuals, international entrepreneurs and businesses on work permits, EU laws, student visas, asylum, bail applications, deportation, settlement, Judicial Reviews and Human Rights. He also advises on criminal matters such as motoring, speeding, drink driving, dangerous driving, careless driving, driving disqualifications and other road traffic offences, domestic violence and minicab/touting.

Anis Rahman specialises in aviation and employment law both for the employers and employees and is a highly experienced defence lawyer in dealing with these matters in Courts and Tribunals. He is a specialist in Mohammedan Law. He is also an experienced Defamation lawyer and represented clients in the High Court of Justice. His notable cases include Sheihk Azizul Haque V Potrika, Notundin, Euro-Bangla and Bangla Mirror newspaper. He also represents disciplinary actions against Bar students to the visitors of the Inns of Court Royal Court of Justice. He is a legal Adviser and Counsel to Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Sonali Bank.

In 2009, Mr Anis Rahman was appointed an Executive member of the Equality and Diversity Committee of the General Council of the Bar dealing with race equality policy, diversity and good practice. Anis Rahman is a senior Executive member of the Society of Labour Lawyers in the UK and Chairman of the Immigration, Nationality and Citizenship group. He speaks Bengali, Urdu, Hindi, French and a working knowledge of Arabic.

Anis has written several articles on national and international topics and some of which have been published in The Times and other newspapers. He is a seasoned public speaker on current affairs in conferences, seminars and on TV about diversity, social cohesion, multiculturalism, human rights, race relations, community and international affairs including the UN and has everlasting passion to the Rule of Law.

Anis Rahman is a non-stipendiary Magistrate and was an Adviser to the Home Secretary on Race Equality and Community Affairs. He is involved with several voluntary and community organisations and is a Trustee of Toynbee Hall in the East End of London and Anti-Slavery International. He is an honorary legal adviser to the British Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh Caterers’ Association and Bangladesh Centre in the UK. In recognition of his pro-bono legal advice to overseas students for 20 years and 35 years of voluntary service in the United Kingdom, in 2009, Mr Anis Rahman was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen.
